favorite wine producers

One could do worse than stock their cellar with a few fantastic producers that offer a myriad of incredible red wines.  If I could only choose 5 or 6 producers for consistency, truth to terroir, and simple drinking pleasure without completely destroying the bank account I’d choose these:

Tardieu-Laurent:  A Rhone producer that produces fantastic Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, St-Joseph, Vacqueryas, and Gigondas wines.  These wines are consistent, complex, big reds that stay true to the terroir of their villages.
Turley: The biggest, baddest zinfandels and Petite Syrahs on the planet. Larry Turley consistently turns out giant, alcoholic, ripe fruit bombs that are guaranteed to blow you away.  They do actually stain your teeth!

Etude: Fantastic Napa Cabs and Pinot Noirs – Not over the top – elegant, juicy and true to varietal.

Karl Lawrence:  Small Napa Production out of the same cellar as Sequoia Grove, this cabernet has incredible genes with grapes coming from fabled vineyards such as Morisoli and Lamb in Napa.  Wow.  this is sexy, sophisticated wine that is the true essence of cabernet sauvignon.

San Giusto a Rentennano:  In Gaiole in Chianti, Tuscany this producer consistently tops the charts for super-tuscans and Chianti Classico reds as well as with their Vin Santo sweet wine.  The stars are Percarlo, which is a 100% Sangiovese wine made in a super-tuscan style, and La Ricolma, a 100% Merlot monster that would rival the best from Pomerol, France.
